Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) was established in 2008 by decree No. (27) of 2018, issued by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan UAE Vice President , Deputy Prime Minister , and chairman of the Presidential Court, concerning “Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre”, annulling decree No. (7) of 2012. Under this decree, the Centre aims to:
- Highlight the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s noble deeds, promote his legacy, and accentuate his fine qualities and humanitarian contributions.
- Promote Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, preserve its religious, scientific, and cultural status, and twin between it and between mosques, major cultural institutions, and the Islamic world.
- Introduce the Centre as a destination that highlights the culture of tolerance, serves as a global Islamic cultural center, underscores values of coexistence and tolerance among nations, and is renowned as a unique cultural and tourist attraction.
In accordance with the founding decree, this will include:
- Highlighting the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s achievements and - noble deeds of religious, cultural, and humanitarian nature through exhibitions, activities, and religious, cultural, and tourist events.
- Organizing conferences, seminars, and events or participating with other religious and cultural institutions to realize the Centre’s goals and highlight the Centre’s role and collections locally and globally, both within and outside the UAE.
- Establishing a library showcasing references, resources, and manuscripts specializing in Islamic art and supporting printing works, researche, books, magazines, brochures, and audio and visual publications.
- Instigate the mosque’s role in serving the community as a congregational mosque for celebrating religious and national occasions and endorsing its role to promote social responsibility, organize lectures and seminars on various areas, such as art, Arabic language, and calligraphy, as well as organizing, Quran memorization, recitation competitions, and call to prayer.
- Networking with governmental institutions, authorities, and other entities to realize the Centre’s objectives.
- Consolidate the mosque’s status as a leading destination that welcomes official visits and delegations, promotes its unique architectural style, and encourages cultural, academic, and tourist visits from inside and outside the UAE to learn about the mosque’s architecture, corridors, collections, vital facilities, and cultural position as a leading destination that establishes values of coexistence and tolerance amongst nations, besides its status as a unique cultural and tourist attraction.
- Work vigorously to safeguard the Centre’s facilities and collections and preserve its structures in accordance with the highest standards.
- Issuing the Hijri calendar in coordination with the concerned legal, astronomical, and administrative authorities in the UAE.
