The Centre annually takes proactive steps during the Holy month of Ramadan to ensure maximum readiness to receive the increasing crowds of worshippers and visitors that flock to the mosque and provide an ambiance of comfort and tranquility.
Coordination meetings with partners
As part of its preparations for the holy month, the Centre holds several meetings with government and private sectors and institutions, including its strategic partners, with whom it cooperates annually and who contribute to the Ramadan project through effective and integrated efforts that add to the success of the work system during the holy month.
Specialized committees and well-formulated plans
To ensure the success of the Ramadan project plans, the Centre forms an integrated hive of committees and work teams composed of its staff; To work in the various mechanical, technical, logistical, media, and on-site fields, around-the-clock, in an organized and integrated manner to ensure the achievement of the SZGMC's goals that seek to provide the highest level of service, guaranteeing that all field preparations for receiving the mosque's guests are completed, and a comfortable environment is created.
Integrated Services and Outstanding Readiness
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre provides the mosque's worshippers and visitors with a system of services that meet the highest levels of efficiency and organization throughout the holy month of Ramadan, befitting the mosque's pioneering status as the largest mosque in the UAE and the region, and reflecting its prominent religious role as a place of worship that holds religious rituals and festivities, while also continuing its leading cultural role.
To provide a comfortable environment for worshippers, the Centre completes:
- Washing, sterilizing, and reinstalling the main hall's carpet and ensuring its quality is preserved.
- Cleaning the domes while utilizing techniques and materials that preserve the marble, the design, and splendid aesthetics.
- Carrying out regular maintenance work of 41 air-conditioning and temperature control air handling units and calibrating the air chilliness according to the number of worshippers in the prayer halls while specialized engineers continue to monitor the internal temperature and humidity levels.
- Rolling out more than 1,000 custom-made carpets and sterilizing them daily.
- Providing more than 1,250 chairs for worshippers and medical prayer chairs in the prayer halls.
- Providing more than 20,000 water bottles daily throughout the holy month, which on the night of the 27th during the last ten days of Ramadan increases in number to reach more than 40,000, stored in 42 water chillers distributed throughout the mosque.
- Providing more than 40 golf carts to transport crowds of worshippers back and forth from the parking lots to the prayer locations at the mosque.
- Equipping a special sound studio with the latest technology supervised by qualified sound engineers to ensure that the sound is transmitted loud and clear.
- Providing and distributing a large number of Qur'an manuscripts across the halls and courtyard in a manner that preserves the sanctity of the Holy Qur'an.
We Volunteer To Give Back To Our Homeland
The organizing committees at SZGMC forms work teams including the Centre's staff from different fields and specializations who are distributed following well formulated plans that serve the goals of the Centre, who work side by side the Emirates Red Crescent Authority in Abu Dhabi, the (Absher Ya Watan) volunteer team, police officers, paramedics, and Civil Defense personnel throughout the holy month to provide the highest level of services to worshipers to perform their prayers with reverence and ease.
The holy months' rituals at the mosque
The Centre organizes many programs at the mosque filling the days and nights of the holy month with the Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers led by the Imams of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Idrees Abkar, Yahya Eshan, and several honorable reciters from the UAE President's guest scholars and the mosque's guests amidst an exceptional atmosphere. The odd-numbered nights, and the night of the twenty-seventh of Ramadan in particular, usually witness a significant increase in the number of worshippers who perform these blessed rituals at the mosque.
Easy entry and safe transportation
The Centre ensures smooth and safe passage of the mosque's worshippers and visitors, and that vehicles are parked safely, given the high volume and diverse categories and requirements to grantee safe and comfortable mobility throughout the mosque through:
- Planning the mosque's road and pedestrians and cyclists lane
- Providing about 40 electric cars to transport worshippers from the parking lots to the prayer halls and organizing their usage by:
1- Allocating electric cars in various parts of the mosque.
2- Assigning the priority of use to senior citizens, people of determination, and women.
3- Assigning its female staff to drive several electric cars to transport females.
- Allocating more than 6,579 parking lots for worshippers.
- Allocating more than 1,500 parking lots for women on the northern side, taking into account the proximity to female prayer halls.
- Allocating more than 60 parking lots for people of determination near the entrances.
- Enabling the use of the mosque's internal and external parking lots in the eastern zone adjacent to Wahat Al Karama.
- Cooperating with Erth Hotel to provide more than 1,000 parking lots, with additional parking areas at Zayed Sports City during the last ten days of the holy month.
- Allocating buses to transport worshippers from additional parking areas outside the mosque.
- Providing more than 50 wheelchairs.
Initiatives and programs that embody our mission
To signify its noble message and complement its cultural role, the Centre developed a package of plans that include a set of initiatives and programs during the month of Ramadan, through which it expresses noble Islamic values and the mosque's message calling for cross-cultural communication with all.
Hosting "Mohammed bin Zayed Council" Ramadan lectures
The Centre is honored by hosting the "Mohammed bin Zayed Council" Ramadan lectures, during which specialists and researchers in different fields deliver lectures on various topics.
The "Dhikr from the mosque" series
Throughout the holy month of Ramadan ,the Centre posts the "Dhikr from the mosque" series on its Instagram account and AD TV social media and digital platforms to enhance the mosque’s religious role in Ramadan. During the episodes, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque preachers deliver a group of religious messages revolving around the virtues of the holy month and the lessons derived from it, targeting different segments of society.
“Jusoor” Program
It is one of the initiatives launched by the Centre in line with its dedication to promoting the inherent Emirati values and culture that characterize the UAE, which has become a prominent incubator of tolerance and coexistence. The initiative aims to extend bridges of communication with different cultures; By inviting them to experience a day in Ramadan at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Crowds of participants attending the program are received at the mosque, and first, they listen to a lecture about Ramadan. Later they move on to viewing the firing of the Iftar cannon at the mosque. A cherished Emirati authentic heritage closely associated with the holy month of Ramadan. They also participate in the distribution of Iftar meals, which is part of the "Our Fasting Guests" project( A project held annually as a tribute to the soul of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan throughout Ramadan at the mosque). The program concludes with the participants sharing an iftar meal with thousands of fasting guests at the mosque, reflecting the finest concepts of acceptance, coexistence, and tolerance that emanate from Islam's preachings. This initiative annually receives broad participation and large turnout from people from all walks of life.
Hosting the guests of His Highness, the President of the UAE, within a special program.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the Centre hosts the guests of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE ( God protect him ), on an iftar meal at the mosque as part of a unique program that briefs them about the features of Islamic architecture and its aesthetics that manifest throughout the mosque and about its cultural vision and message, as part of a specially curated tour provided by one of the Centre's cultural tour specialists.
Welcoming new Muslims
The Centre hosts delegations of new Muslims on an iftar meal at the mosque as part of a specially curated program organized by the Centre. It commences with a tour around the mosque to acquaint them with its message calling for tolerance and coexistence with others, and the aesthetics of its Islamic architecture, followed by watching the firing of the iftar cannon.
Religious lectures of the guests of His Highness the President of the UAE
During Ramadan, the Centre hosts several eminent scholars of the guests of His Highness the President of the UAE (God protect him), in cooperation with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments during the period from the 1st to the 18th of Ramadan, to deliver 18 lectures daily after Tarawih prayers, on various topics targeting various groups of society, complementing the mosque's religious and cultural role as a platform that promotes refined human values further reflecting the bright image of Islam.
Zayed Humanitarian Workday
During Ramadan , the Centre hosts an event, organized by the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Presidential Court, and in cooperation with the Center, to commemorate "Zayed Humanitarian Workday", annually observed on the 19th of Ramadan, attended by several officials, members of the diplomatic community, and a vast number of worshipers.

Distributing the audio Quran recited by the mosque's imams, Idris Abkar and Yahya Aishan, to the worshipers; On the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Workday.
The Ramadan cannon... an authentic Emirati heritage
The Centre annually hosts the Iftar cannon", at the mosque in cooperation with the UAE Armed Forces Command Support Unit by daily firing a single shot at sunset throughout the holy month of Ramadan. A cherished Emirati authentic heritage closely associated with the holy month of Ramadan and a tradition dear to Emiratis and UAE residents. The event is broadcasted live daily on Abu Dhabi TV. Besides, people of all cultures also have the opportunity to witness the firing of the cannon closely.
The Walking initiative
It embodies SZGMC's keenness to fulfill its social responsibility and its active role in spreading community awareness about the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and encourage them to practice sports and visit the community facilities spread across the various regions of the capital, including "Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's Jogging Track" that provides visitors from different cultures with a unique venue to practice various outdoor sports while enjoying the majestic view of the mosque's architecture and surrounding landscape.
Distributing 500,000 Iftar meals
The Iftar meals distribution annual project for consecutive years has been implemented by SZGMC in cooperation with Erth Abu Dhabi Hotel - the strategic partner of the Centre over the years. The project involves preparing and distributing 500,000 Iftar meals throughout the month, at a rate of 50,000 balanced Iftar meals per day. The meals are further distributed in coordination with the specialized economic zones "Zonescorp" to recipients of various cultures. The Centre also distributes 20,000 Suhoor meals during the last ten days of Ramadan, embodying the values of giving and benevolence instilled by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, within the UAE society.
Intensified efforts during the last ten days
Out of the Centre's keenness to create and maintain a serene and comfortable atmosphere for worshipers, who double in numbers during the last ten days of the holy month at the mosque, it provides several innovative services and initiatives, including:
- Providing additional parking lots for cars and a bus service to transport worshippers from the parking lots to the mosque.
- Doubling the switchboard staff at the Centre to be able to accommodate a large number of incoming calls and be able to respond to all of the worshippers and visitors’ inquiries.
- Increasing the carpeted areas in the mosque's courtyard and corridors.
- Distributing Suhoor meals to worshippers
- Doubling volunteers and service teams.
- Continuing to receive the mosque's visitors and guests during the morning.
- Doubling efforts as the work teams at the Centre continue to work tirelessly throughout the last night of the holy month to ensure readiness to receive visitors by removing all carpets, barriers, information booths, Quran shelves, and water coolers in record time.
** The mosque receives about 16,000 visitors daily during the days of the holy month.

To enhance the mosque's presence on the global tourism map as a leading cultural destination that annually receives about 6 million worshippers and visitors, The Centre continues to provide cultural tours at the mosque during the Ramadan visiting times.

Souq Al Jami' opens its doors to worshipers and visitors during the holy month of Ramadan, offering a range of integrated services and a variety of stores. The restaurants and outdoor stalls of Souq Al Jami remain open and provide their services in a unique Ramadan atmosphere for families and friends amidst the captivating external view of the mosque and its exquisite Islamic architecture. While "Earth Supermarket" also maximizes its readiness to meet all needs of the community members by providing various types of commodities while extending its working hours throughout the week to cater to the needs of the mosque's visitors at the mosque who arrive to pray or visit.

Local and international media platforms - in their various forms and templates - shed light on the work system of the "Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's Ramadan Project", which receives wide attention due to the spiritual and religious value it represents, which combines the sanctity of space and the noble messages its esthetic features entail with the sacredness of the holly month.
