Initiatives And Programs That Embody Our Mission
To signify its noble message and complement its cultural role, the Centre developed a package of plans that include a set of initiatives and programs during the month of Ramadan, through which it expresses noble Islamic values and the mosque's message calling for cross-cultural communication with all.
Hosting "Mohammed bin Zayed Council" Ramadan lectures
The Centre is honored by hosting the "Mohammed bin Zayed Council" Ramadan lectures, during which specialists and researchers in different fields deliver lectures on various topics.
The "Dhikr from the mosque" series
Throughout the holy month of Ramadan ,the Centre posts the "Dhikr from the mosque" series on its Instagram account and AD TV social media and digital platforms to enhance the mosque’s religious role in Ramadan. During the episodes, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque preachers deliver a group of religious messages revolving around the virtues of the holy month and the lessons derived from it, targeting different segments of society.
“Jusoor” Program
It is one of the initiatives launched by the Centre in line with its dedication to promoting the inherent Emirati values and culture that characterize the UAE, which has become a prominent incubator of tolerance and coexistence. The initiative aims to extend bridges of communication with different cultures; By inviting them to experience a day in Ramadan at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Crowds of participants attending the program are received at the mosque, and first, they listen to a lecture about Ramadan. Later they move on to viewing the firing of the Iftar cannon at the mosque. A cherished Emirati authentic heritage closely associated with the holy month of Ramadan. They also participate in the distribution of Iftar meals, which is part of the "Our Fasting Guests" project( A project held annually as a tribute to the soul of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan throughout Ramadan at the mosque). The program concludes with the participants sharing an iftar meal with thousands of fasting guests at the mosque, reflecting the finest concepts of acceptance, coexistence, and tolerance that emanate from Islam's preachings. This initiative annually receives broad participation and large turnout from people from all walks of life.
Hosting the guests of His Highness, the President of the UAE, within a special program
During the holy month of Ramadan, the Centre hosts the guests of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE ( God protect him ), on an iftar meal at the mosque as part of a unique program that briefs them about the features of Islamic architecture and its aesthetics that manifest throughout the mosque and about its cultural vision and message, as part of a specially curated tour provided by one of the Centre's cultural tour specialists.
Welcoming new Muslims
The Centre hosts delegations of new Muslims on an iftar meal at the mosque as part of a specially curated program organized by the Centre. It commences with a tour around the mosque to acquaint them with its message calling for tolerance and coexistence with others, and the aesthetics of its Islamic architecture, followed by watching the firing of the iftar cannon.
Religious lectures of the guests of His Highness the President of the UAE
During Ramadan, the Centre hosts several eminent scholars of the guests of His Highness the President of the UAE (God protect him), in cooperation with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments during the period from the 1st to the 18th of Ramadan, to deliver 18 lectures daily after Tarawih prayers, on various topics targeting various groups of society, complementing the mosque's religious and cultural role as a platform that promotes refined human values further reflecting the bright image of Islam.
Zayed Humanitarian Workday
During Ramadan , the Centre hosts an event, organized by the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Presidential Court, and in cooperation with the Center, to commemorate "Zayed Humanitarian Workday", annually observed on the 19th of Ramadan, attended by several officials, members of the diplomatic community, and a vast number of worshipers.
Distribution of the audio Quran
Distributing the audio Quran recited by the mosque's imams, Idris Abkar and Yahya Aishan, to the worshipers; On the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Workday.
The Ramadan cannon... an authentic Emirati heritage
The Centre annually hosts the Iftar cannon", at the mosque in cooperation with the UAE Armed Forces Command Support Unit by daily firing a single shot at sunset throughout the holy month of Ramadan. A cherished Emirati authentic heritage closely associated with the holy month of Ramadan and a tradition dear to Emiratis and UAE residents. The event is broadcasted live daily on Abu Dhabi TV. Besides, people of all cultures also have the opportunity to witness the firing of the cannon closely.
The Walking initiative
It embodies SZGMC's keenness to fulfill its social responsibility and its active role in spreading community awareness about the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and encourage them to practice sports and visit the community facilities spread across the various regions of the capital, including "Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's Jogging Track" that provides visitors from different cultures with a unique venue to practice various outdoor sports while enjoying the majestic view of the mosque's architecture and surrounding landscape.
Distributing 500,000 Iftar meals
The Iftar meals distribution annual project for consecutive years has been implemented by SZGMC in cooperation with Erth Abu Dhabi Hotel - the strategic partner of the Centre over the years. The project involves preparing and distributing 500,000 Iftar meals throughout the month, at a rate of 50,000 balanced Iftar meals per day. The meals are further distributed in coordination with the specialized economic zones "Zonescorp" to recipients of various cultures. The Centre also distributes 20,000 Suhoor meals during the last ten days of Ramadan, embodying the values of giving and benevolence instilled by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, within the UAE society.
